Wind turbine and solar panels; these are the most heard ways to produce new green energy. With that you can power your homes or even your car but the technology and application for that have move forward as well. There were plenty of advancements made that will change the way we produce green energy in the year 2009 itself.
MIT manage to prove a concept where trees can be used as batteries by maintaining a pH difference between their inner trunk and the ground outside. There is a disadvantages to this technology where you need a lot of trees to give enough power to run. But MIT still manage to form their own spin off company and apply this technology to the U.S. Forest Service weather stations. Maybe someday if this technology improves further, we will have more reason to plant trees and be more Eco-friendly.
In another similar situation as above, Stirling Energy Systems have also manage to prove the idea of concentrating the suns' rays into the combustion chamber of a Stirling engine driving an electricity generator.
It is estimated that eleven square miles of it can provide as much energy as the Hoover Dam. That would be amazing news as countries finally have a cheaper and more Eco-friendly power source instead of relying on making hydro dam where a large part of nature needed to be sacrifice to power it.
Energy Recovery, is the company that own the world's first osmotic power plant. It's purpose is to reverse the desalination pressure exchangers and harvest energy from it. Currently it is not fully functional yet but when it is proven to be successful, it can provide enough energy to satisfy 50% of Europe. Our world is covered 70% in water and around 95% of the water are sea water. So if we are able to use the entire ocean to produce energy, we would have enough for generations to come.
